From Pain to Prevention
- Massage Therapy
On your first visit, a thorough history and examination will be performed. Your chiropractor may or may not refer you for x-rays based on your examination. After all this information is obtained, we will give you a diagnosis and a care plan based on your specific condition and/or needs. In general, there are three phases of care.
Many people who initially come for chiropractic care are generally people looking for relief from symptoms they are experiencing. At our office, we use various physiotherapy modalities like heat, ice, electric muscle stimulation, or ultrasound in addition to the chiropractic adjustment to help you to start feeling relief from symptoms. During this phase, generally visits are more frequent and may require two to three visits a week for a period of time. Pain may disappear, but may reccurr if the underlying cause is not corrected.
After you have experienced improvement in symptoms, it is important to address the underlying cause of the symptoms to decrease the chances of the problem from recurring. Postural abnormalities, muscle imbalance, or poor diet are examples of underlying issues that can be helped with exercise, nutritional counciling, and adjustments. The visits are less frequent during this phase and may last a few months to a few years based on how long you have had the condition for.
Once your body has healed and underlying health issues have been addressed, it is beneficial to have periodic adjustments to avoid problems in the future. Depending on a patients age, occupation, and lifestyle, this may be once of twice a month to keep your body feeling healthy and enjoying the activities you love.
